You’re designing a logo for your coffee shop in Canva. It needs to be inviting, maybe a little artsy. Most importantly it needs to be done yesterday. You have customers to help! Canva has a truly overwhelming selection of typefaces to choose from. What was supposed to be a quick and easy task has become quite a chore. I’m here to help!
What follows is a list of my 5 favorite typefaces to use when designing logos for local coffee shops in Canva. They each have their own vibe, but all of them say small, homey coffee shop to me.
Sukar
Sukar suits coffee shops that want to establish a down to earth, artisanal vibe. I reminds me of the coffee shop I used to go to in college. I see this logo and think organic, baked in house pastry and earl grey tea.
Oval
The Oval typeface brings a lot of personality to a logo. I love the strong arch in the “a” and the sharp angles of the “m” mixed with the softer rounded corners in the “e”. This logo leans a bit more modern to me when compared to, for example, Sukar. I see this logo suiting coffee shops that have a design that is a blend of modern and traditional.
Breul Grotesk
Breul Grotesk is a lovely, bold typeface that makes for a very clean logo. I think this logo is strong, even sturdy. It reads very wholesome, but not outdated.
Caladea
Caladea has a comforting, down home vibe to me. I particularly enjoy the flourish on the ampersand. I see this typeface being a great fit for a coffee shop in the south looking to embrace bed and breakfast vibes.
Neue Machina
Neue Machina is delightfully modern. This logo tells me a lot about the clientele this coffee house is looking to serve. I’m thinking Neue Machina is a great fit for coffee shops looking to cater to tech bros and bio hackers.
